In celebration of National Poetry Month, Library Information Specialist Karen Karolczak gave each student in Ms. Lasko’s kindergarten class at Elementary North a short poem to keep in their pockets. She also taught them a fun song about keeping a poem in your pocket in which students came up with their own rhyming words. National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.
