Students Use Interpretive Dance to Express their Writing

The Chicago based Zephyr residency project encourages the students write short stories and then creatvely act them out using their arms, feet and facial expressions.  Students in grades K-5 responded to an essay prompt.  Then as part of an artistic endeavor to visualize their writing, the Hawthorn Elementary School North students created artistic movements to those stories.  The wonderful thing about this experience that we were emphasizing is how children can create meaning and understanding more deeply through movement.  Their individual journey through this residency is what was most important.
